Today there was very troubling news from Babcock of up to 500 job losses at Devonport Dockyard, which amounts to around one in 10 jobs there. My thoughts are with employees and their families that this could hurt who are now facing uncertainty.
I'm clear that a thriving future for the Dockyard is critical to our local economy here. I'm following the situation closely and support the efforts of our neighbouring Labour MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport Luke Pollard in working with the company and unions to ensure any job losses are voluntary not compulsory.
